Latvia 2-Year Diploma Programme 2026: Requirements, Cost and Schengen Access, How to Apply.
Two Years in Latvia: The European Study Route Most Nigerians Have Never Heard Of
Everyone talks about Canada. Everyone talks about the UK. Everyone talks about Germany.
Meanwhile, a small Baltic country with cobblestone streets, forests that cover half the national territory, and full membership in the Schengen Area has been quietly opening its classrooms to international students — and most people applying abroad have never seriously looked at it.
That country is Latvia. And right now, there's a 2-year diploma route open with selected schools, with applications closing at the end of this month.
What You'd Actually Be Studying
The main programme is Tourism Service Organization — and before you scroll past it, consider what that field actually means in a European context.
Tourism in Europe isn't a side industry. It's infrastructure. Hotels, travel operations, event coordination, hospitality management, destination services. Latvia sits at a crossroads between Scandinavia, Russia, and Western Europe, with Riga's old town drawing visitors year-round. Studying tourism there means studying it where it's practised at scale.
And this isn't a theory-only programme. We can assist with internship placement, so you leave with practical experience attached to your diploma rather than just a certificate and hope.
The Requirements Are Genuinely Simple
This is the part that surprises people. You need:
- ✅ WAEC
- ✅ Secondary School Transcript
That's the academic baseline. No degree required. No years of work experience. If you finished secondary school and have your results, you meet the entry requirement.
Let's Talk Money — Openly
Nobody should make a decision this big without seeing the full picture, so here it is without the fog.
1. Admission Processing — ₦1,000,000
This covers applications to three different schools, not one. Applying to a single institution and waiting is how people lose an entire admission cycle. Three applications means three chances, and a faster route to a "yes."
⚠️ Note that each school charges its own application fee of roughly €160–€250, separate from the processing fee.
2. School Fees — €2,000 to €4,000
The exact figure depends on the school and programme you're admitted to. Compare that to tuition in most Western European countries and the gap speaks for itself.
💰 Importantly: school fees are refundable under the school's own refund policy if the visa is refused.
3. Service Balance — ₦5,000,000, paid only AFTER visa approval
Read that again. You do not pay the ₦5 million until the visa is in hand. The bulk of the cost is tied to the outcome, not the attempt.
🏦 A bank draft is required before processing begins.
The Part That Changes Everything: Schengen Access
Here's where Latvia stops being "a small country in the Baltics" and starts being a doorway.
Successful students can obtain a Latvian residence permit for the duration of their studies — subject to immigration approval and continued eligibility.
And because Latvia is part of the Schengen Area, holders of a valid Latvian residence permit can generally make short visits to other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, subject to Schengen rules.
Practically speaking: you're studying in Riga, but Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam and Prague are weekend-trip territory. For a tourism student, that isn't tourism — that's fieldwork.
Visa Support — And an Honest Caveat
The school provides the necessary supporting admission documentation and may communicate with the relevant authorities regarding your admission where applicable.
⚠️ But let's be clear, because you deserve clarity: final visa and residence-permit decisions rest entirely with the relevant immigration and consular authorities. No agent, school, or consultant anywhere in the world can guarantee a visa. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something else.
The Clock Is the Real Constraint
⏰ Applications close at the end of this month.
Latvia isn't going to stay under the radar forever. Every year, more students discover what a Schengen-country education costs versus what it opens up — and the quiet routes stop being quiet.
If you have your WAEC and your Secondary School Transcript, you already have what you need to start. The only thing standing between you and a European classroom is the decision to begin.
